Shawn Waco is a visual artist based in Santa Monica, California. Since 1990, he studied printmaking and over the years he mastered the technique Viscosity Etching. His etchings combined detailed illustration, heavily etched zinc plates, and a color overlap process with multiple gelatin rollers. In 2019, he invented a unique process of 3D Mixed-Media Art which combined tradition methods of art and modern techniques. Through detailed illustration, multiple levels of laser cut and etched wood, acrylic paint, spray paint, and pored resin, Shawn brings urban landscapes and cityscapes to life. His art uses elements of places he visits combined with imagination. He is a world traveler and has spent time in Europe, Southeast Asia, plus Central and South America. He explores United States by road trips. He regularly stays with friends and family on the Hawaiian Islands. He is an avid cyclist and world major marathon runner.
Shawn’s work has shown in Los Angeles galleries since 1999 and is currently on display at POP Gallery in Denver, CO, Gabba Gallery in Los Angeles, and Wyland Signature Galleries in Waikiki and Hale’iwa North Shore, Oahu. Shawn was awarded the Most Original Artist Award at the Beverly Hills Art Show, 2024 and he also received another award for his category in 2025. Shawn demonstrated his Viscosity Etching process for the Getty Research Institute in 2025.
