Tony Davis

Silversmith

Tony Davis, (b. 1945 -d. 2026)

was a self-taught artist and silversmith producing one of a kind wearable works of art and unique sculptures, hand-wrought in fine metals or stone. Employing the traditional silver working methods of the early Native American and Spanish Colonial plateros, each silver piece is meticulously crafted from an original ingot. In the last few years he has also been mining NM stones and creating beautiful sculptural art pieces for the home or office as well as recycling vintage silver tea trays into earrings and ornaments.

A variety of old tools and implements, including an antique Spanish colonial anvil, canon balls from the Mexican Revolutionary period and old steel forms, combine to help create the unique effects of his art.

The application of these difficult, laborious and demanding traditional methods reveals the unique beauty, aesthetics and essence of the metals that is not found in today’s technology and manufacturing.

A native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Tony was a well respected engineering contractor, with the beauty and quality of his work winning numerous project awards. His creativity and unique mindset then turned to one media he has always loved, silver. Expanding on his original fascination of working with fine metals, Tony has now become an artist whose work is in great demand for discriminating collectors.

Tony, his wife Diane and their three Weimaraners lived in the artist village of Corrales, New Mexico, where Tony spendt most of his time in his studio constantly designing and creating new and unique pieces.

Tony Davis is considered a New Mexico True Artisan and we are saddened by his passing in March 2026. at the young age of 81. We continue to represent him exclusively at POP Gallery in Denver. Direct inquiries to Sharla@popsantafe.com or call 720-871-1183.
